Biography
Briz duo Gorgeous keep airwaves almost as busy as their National touring schedule, with the November 2003 Radio Launch of cute melodic pop song: Air Balloon. This exciting new track is the second Gorgeous single to feature spunky Brizbanian boys Chris Pickering and James O’Brien (from The Boat People) as rhythm section, embellishing perfectly with bass and drums what is already a very pretty song.

On hearing Gorgeous, Noel Mengel from Brisbane's The Courier Mail was moved to write: “The result is something different from almost any folk-pop you've heard lately.”

And he's right. It's the differences in what Gorgeous gals Emma and Fi do with their various instruments (guitar, violin, cello, piano accordion, bass, glockenspiel and mandolin), vocals and melodies that set them apart- making categorization difficult...because what Gorgeous do is new- and their name couldn't be more fitting.

Emma's sweet tones perfectly compliment and contrast with Fi's more textured vocal lines, with perhaps the true brilliance in what Gorgeous do lying in the extraordinary fullness of sound they create from sparse instrumentation. This all-encompassing clarity of sonic beauty, encasing direct, honest lyrics about life leaves you wondering if that famous saying should be changed to "the simple things in life are the most intense".

The beauty and differences in Gorgeous music have led to a wide range of requested supports (from bands as diverse as The Whitlams, george, The Waifs, iOTA, Waikiki, Mick Thomas and the Sure Thing, Pete Murray, Palladium, Sally Dastey, Things of Stone and Wood, Monique Brumby, Mick Hart and The Bluehouse), and the gracing of Livid Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, 4ZZZ Market Day, and Women in Voice Festival stages.

It has also secured interviews, live-to-air recordings and heavy rotation airplay of Gorgeous single DoDoDo Song (from third album: twelveplus1) on national radio network Triple J, as well as countless community radio stations around the country. DoDoDo Song was voted into the Triple J Net 50 by listeners 5 weeks in a row. In conjunction with DoDoDo Song’s airplay, Gorgeous sold out of the album twelveplus1 in stores- it is currently being re-pressed by MGM. Video clips for Evaporate and Special (both from second album: Gorgeous) aired on Rage. Rolling Stone Magazine featured the single Evaporate on a compilation CD, and the list goes on….!!!

Following from an Air Balloon [single] barrage of National radio waves November 2003, Gorgeous give Brizvegas, Melbourne, and Woodford Folk Festival fans extra reasons to smile with December 2003 Launches of a new six-song EP of which Air Balloon is title track! This exciting new disc makes CD number 4 in 3.5 years (all distributed by MGM) for these two superb and prolific young singer-songwriters. The rest of the country can look forward to the extraordinary emotional energy of Gorgeous Air Balloon EP launches early 2004!!!!
