Search newherenowlive.com for Klinger Biography It's 2003 and Klinger refuse to go away. And why the hell should they? They‚re getting flogged on the radio with their single Acne & Peroxide, touring like demons and writing better and better songs. And the sound? Rock, with brains. Like their heroes, Elvis Costello, or the Beatles, or even the Clash.
Formed in 1996, Klinger spent their first few years establishing themselves as live favourites in Melbourne, releasing two independent EP's, supporting Everclear, Even, Pollyanna, and more, taping a live set for Triple J, appearing on ABC's Recovery program and having a hell of a lot of fun.
Klinger turned the corner in 2000. Hello Cruel World put Klinger in people's ears, and the video put a face to the name. This translated to more live work, including support slots for Green Day, Bodyjar, Unwritten Law, The Fauves and the Mavis's, tours to Perth, Adelaide, New South Wales, more of Victoria than is recommended, and all without a record deal, with only their wits to protect them. They rounded off the year with two songs in the Triple J Hottest 100 and a spot at the Falls Festival.
If that wasn't enough, Klinger released the Sayonara Anyway/ Ben Lee single in 2001. Recorded in Melbourne with producer and friend Neil Gray. This in turn brought more Radio, TV and touring. They ended their year with a national tour with Melbourne‚s Motorace, before taking a break. 2002 was a stop-start year, with no less than two line-up changes, a change of management and still more touring.
2003 sees Klinger preparing to lay down a long-awaited long-player. Let‚s hope it‚s going to have some of the spit and sweat of their live shows, along with a smattering of their new-found subtlety and tough Beach Boy harmonies. If it lives up to the potential that Klinger have always shown, look out. Klinger Website: http://www.klinger.net.au |
