Delirious Blue was formed by singer/songwriter Nikki Smith who grew up in a strong classical music environment.In April 2000 Nikki began exploring more contemporary styles as a backing singer in Melbourne.This experience inspired her to form her own group,Delirious Blue.
Originally formed as a duo with Melbourne jazz guitarist Greg Stone,Delirious Blue now performs as an acoustic duo with Tim Reid and as a band with percussionist Stuart Whitehead, bass player Warren Hunter and guest vocalists and musicians. Nikki ’s lyrics are drawn from her experiences surfing and travelling while the music of delirious blue is influenced by the dynamic sound of singer/songwriters like Aimee Mann and P.J Harvey.
Delirious Blue has generated a loyal following,regularly playing at Melbourne venues the The Commercial Hotel,Dan O 'Connel Hotel,Revolver,The Lincoln Hotel,The Rochester Hotel,The Empress of India Hotel,Getrudes Bar,Bar Open. Delirious Blue have also performed two original songs live to air on Channel 31,received airplay on Melbourne radio stations 3PBS,3RRR,3CR and JOY FM and contributed the track “I Dream a Dream ”to the Positive Steps World AIDS Day Compilation CD 2001 .
Delirious Blue toured Sydney during December in 2002 and have plans to record their first EP and tour the NSW coast.Nikki is also planning to collaborate with artists she has met in Spain and Canada.
