(annabel wyburn- violin) Search newherenowlive.com for Emily Ulman Biography 20 years ago when I was 6, I found my mum’s guitar in the hallway cupboard. I began writing melodies to accompany the poetry I was already writing. After years of hiding with only the occasional public appearance (in the kitchen or one of my 3 sisters’ bedrooms), I was eventually persuaded to play publicly. My debut was at an open mic night where I was spotted and asked to feature the following week for a half hour slot of my own. This was 4 years ago. Since then I have released a solo CD, performed extensively around inner and outer Melbourne, played around Europe (including the Edinburgh Festival), been a finalist at the Acoustica 161, Australian Songwriter’s Association, and Port Fairy Folk Festival song- writing competitions, had much radio play (including on Kingsmill’s Oz Music Show), and put a band together. The band has been playing for almost a year now, and with their help, I am on the verge of releasing another recording (“upping the ante”) in a few months time.
