Biography
With the release of their first EP, “Front Row Seat”, Bittersuite has not so much taken a change in direction, as a change in venue. “Front Row Seat” takes Bittersuite from the performance stage into the intimacy of their fan’s lives. Bittersuite has the rare ability to relive experiences with every performance, and the EP gives everybody a front row seat. Emma and Georgia share conversations about their own experiences as well as contemporary issues. Their conversations are brutally honest.

“Front Row Seat” is an emotional roller coaster. It begins with the prevailing frivolity of the title track, the story of Emma’s saving her keyboard as they stack it down a set of stairs, and then plummets into the abyss which is “Happy Girl”. “Happy Girl” is a milestone for Emma and Georgia as they bluntly confront the universal challenge of personal self image for mental health.

Musically, “Front Row Seat” explores odd time signatures, polyrhythms, string arrangements and new counter melodies. In spite of this experimentation, Bittersuite holds firm to their sound which is both unified and powerfully “in the moment”. Improvisation is an integral part of their musical style. This EP appeals to listeners who enjoy the fusion of jazz, folk and rock.

Emma Dean (lead vocals, piano, violin) and Georgia Weber (double bass, vocals, piano) have not looked back since early 2002. Classically trained musicians, their professional association started at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music with Emma asking Georgia to gig with her. Since then, they have grown together - studying, creating music, and challenging the expectations of their instrumental styles. In their down time, they are mounting a campaign to stamp out jelly beans from their diet.
