Biography Melbourne alt-acoustic, four-piece Skipping Girl Vinegar are set to release their infectious, rambling, debut single ‘One Chance’ (complete with animation film clip), across Australia throughout September and October.
SGV have had a remarkable first year since launching themselves onto the live scene, to a sell-out crowd at Melbourne’s Evelyn Hotel, in late 2006. A groundswell of interest in the band has seen them invited to play supports for The Lemonheads (USA), Something for Kate, The Shout Out Louds (Sweden) and Bob Evans. Skipping Girl Vinegar was Jeff Jenkins (Inpress Magazine’s ‘Howzat!’) 2006 “Christmas highlight”, playing a stellar set at the packed, ‘NHNL Christmas Show’ at the Corner Hotel alongside old friends The Boat People and Angus & Julia Stone.
Renowned UK Mix Engineer Adrian Bushby (Ben Kweller, Gomez, Foo Fighters,) liked the rough mixes so much he mixed the first single, ‘One Chance’ at London’s famous Rak studios with the remainder of the album due to be completed by Adrian latter in the year. . Adrian’s management ‘This Much Talent’, have also signed the band to a management deal on the strength of the new album.
Taking their name from the iconic, neon sign of Audrey the 'Skipping Girl' in Richmond, Skipping Girl Vinegar formed three years ago out of the dust of previous collaborations. Childhood friends Mark Lang, Chris Helm, Sare Lang & Amanthi Lynch began working together in the humble surroundings of bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms across Melbourne. Obsessed with melody, pop-hook, and the search to hone their song crafting skills, the band began with a song writing process that would see over 30 songs written, followed by a lengthy period of demoing and pre-production.
Skipping Girl Vinegar began recording their debut album in late 2005 at a beach shack ('the lookout') in Aireys Inlet and then continued tracking the rest of the album in living rooms, bedrooms and kitchens across the Melbourne. This process took over 14 months, concluding at Port Melbourne’s Atlantis Studios in early 2007.
Skipping Girl Vinegar’s debut album was produced & recorded by Greg Arnold (ARIA winner, APRA songwriter of the year), Caleb James (Brisbane engineer/ producer) & Melbourne soundscape artist and SGV member Mark Lang. The result is a dark, warm, organic record that reflects the environments and journey of the band over the last 3 years.
