Search newherenowlive.com for Hyske Biography At the heart of Hyske (pronounced High-Sk) are Saara - vocals/guitar, and Dean -drummer/multi instrumentalist.
A couple of gypsy music makers on a journey that has lead them to the arrival of their debut album LUNA.
Saara, originally from Melbourne, traveled extensively throughout Australia in her early years performing either solo or with various outfits before finally landing in Brisbane in the year 2000. It was while in Brisbane Saara decided to take drum lessons at Drum Worxs in Fortitude Valley that she met Dean (originally from Perth) who was teaching there at the time, and very soon after they formed a working partnership experimenting with electronic sounds.
Following this they spent almost a year traveling the East Coast of America, living and traveling in a 1970s Dodge van and collaborating with musicians in LA, Portland and Vancouver to name a few. It was during this time that their current sound began to emerge which has been described as a fusion of gothic / folk with elements of pop thrown in for good measure.
Returning to Australia they both went their own ways – Dean back to his hometown of Perth & Saara to Sydney, only to discover that they truly missed working together and resulted in Dean relocating to Sydney to continue on with their musical collaboration. Hooking up with Northern Beaches musician/ producer DC (who has also worked with Rob Hirst, Brigitte Handley and Beau Young) they recorded 4 songs for what was to become their debut self titled EP: These 4 unfinished tracks somehow made their way to music publishing company Warner Chappell and resulted in the signing of Hyske and the 2005 release of the (still unfinished) EP.
The EP had a relatively low key release but did result in some very significant airplay on national youth broadcaster Triple J and FBI radio in Sydney, and garnered some fine reviews. The song “Broken Wings” was the featured song and is now featured in its complete state on the debut titled LUNA album.
